Albany Weekender 2010 Classic ‘round-the-houses’ track (Sunday 6th June 2011)
2011 Event
The Weekender Albany Classic weekend is a family friendly event with activities to satisfy everybody who comes along – we know it’s not just about the cars. This event is traditionally held over the June long weekend each year. For 2011 the Albany Classic encompasses the Mount Clarence Hill Climb on Saturday and the ‘Round-the-Houses’ re-enactment and festival on Sunday.
Day 1 Saturday
The Mt Clarence lookout hosts a fast and exciting hill climb event that attracts big fields of entrants in a wide range of vehicles. Head up Mount Clarence to see the cars start at the bottom of Apex drive. This is an “all out” speed test with historic cars timed for a run up the hill. The cars can be seen up close in the pit area.
Officials will be setting up from sunrise and the first cars are expected to run at 9:00 am.
Day 2 Sunday
The centre of Albany is converted to a motorsport circuit complete with Armco barriers and a state of the art timing system. The CBD comes alive to the roar of historic motor sport as a wide variety of historic category vehicles compete against the clock in a trial of regularity.
Everything from pre war specials with wooden or wire spoke wheels to mighty Aussie V8′s. Check out British and Italian sports cars, exotic open wheeler racers from the 1950s, 60s and 70s, touring cars from Morris minor to Ford Falcon and a list of other wonderful machinery dating back to the 1920s!
Festival
Albany’s main street and parks are buzzing from 9.00am until late afternoon with live entertainment, activities, markets, car displays, movies, museum exhibitions, Great Southern tastings with local restaurants and businesses providing Classic hospitality. A wide variety of foods will be available with heaps of activities for the kids. Visit the festival page for more details.

Come down to Collingwood Oval Troode St Collingwood Park Albany this weekend and support Albany Garden’s “The Village People” team in this year’s Relay for Life for the Cancer Council.
The team have been hard at work for months fundraising and preparing to keep the baton moving in a relay walk and run overnight as well as catering at the event over the weekend for about 250 people.
Albany Gardens Lifestyle Village park residents, staff and supporters have already raised over $10,000 through park dinners, sales of produce and many other activities. Some of the park residents have been putting in over 8 hour days in order to prepare for the weekend – and many of them are in their 70′s and 80′s – what an effort!
So come on down and to get together with the community to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to cancer, and fight back against a disease that takes too much.
